Reyjavik Waterfront to Selfoss

On Saturday, we toured the Reykjavik waterfront where Laurie showed us her path for her early morning jog.  We saw the
Sun Voyager sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason, located next to the Sæbraut road.  It is an abstract of a Viking sailing ship described as a dreamboat, or an ode to the Sun. The artist intended it to convey the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.

And then we headed out on the adventure to the Southern Coast and Selfoss.  It is only about an hour drive to this small southern city on the banks of the Ölfusá river.

We had read in the Fodor's Travel guide about Tommi Burger Joint in Selfoss, a tiny place decorated with American and Icelandic pop culture and great burgers with local beef. So we dropped in for lunch.  It was fun to discuss with the local teenager server about conversion from grams to ounces to help us choose our burgers (We ordered 120 gm burgers with lettuce and tomatoes and fries.)

We found delicious tomatoes everywhere and were told there was a large tomato greenhouse in Selfoss although we did not track  it down.  We were invited to write on the wall, so we found a place to document our Viking Quest near the ceiling.

So Icelanders also eat yummy grilled hamburgers on buns with fix-ins and fries.  While we expected this to be a tourist place, I'm pretty sure we were the only ones speaking English.
