Urridafoss - Saturday afternoon

After lunch on Saturday we travel the road to our first waterfall in Iceland.  We are saving the Golden Circle for later, so we travel directly along the Ring Road (Highway #1) about 20 minutes to find a small parking lot on the side of the road.

Our first waterfall in Iceland was Urridafoss just a few miles east of Selfoss. Just a relatively modest waterfall, where the Pjorsa River flows across a wide lava field, and salmon and seals visit from the nearby North Atlantic. The trail that this was taken from was newly paved and we had to step over the "closed" sign to get here, but we were not the only ones so inclined. I'm glad we saw this because it was so beautiful. This river flows down from the highlands ultimately fed by a glacier.

Notice we are all in warm, hooded jackets.  With the temperature around 55 degrees F and a 15 mile an hour wind, it felt chili.
