Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Even though it is beyond the reach of Reykjavik day tours, Seljalandsfoss is really a destination waterfall on the South Coast with the appropriate parking for tour buses.

Seljalandsfoss is one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in South Iceland with a whooping 196 ft cascade. The waterfall is loved by travelers because you can actually walk behind it!  Step behind the curtain of water and marvel at Iceland's South Coast from a completely new perspective.

Note this was one of the reasons to bring a hooded raincoat since the blowing mist can drench you in a moment.  It was also the source of the beautiful rainbows you could see by the falls.

The cave behind the water fall is quite large and coated with growing mosses that are well irrigated.  The floor of the cave is lava based with small black stones.  The path led behind the waterfall and beyond up to a trail back towards the sea.
