Sky Lagoon

In the afternoon, severely jet-lagged, we wanted to experience one of the local geothermal pools in Reykjavik. Since we were not able to get reservations for the Blue Lagoon, we found out about the Sky Lagoon which newly opened in April 2021.

Skerjafjörður is the fjord that Sky Lagoon sits in and it’s named for the reefs that are scattered around inside of it. It has a 70 meter infinite edge that makes you feel like you are one with the ocean beyond.

We participated in the 7 step Icelandic rituals around thermal bathing which included the infinity edge hot lagoon, a icy water plunge pool, a sauna, a cool mist room, a mineral exfoliating body scrub, steam room, shower and back to the thermal pool.  What a treat for us, and made us feel like new.

With an enormous window with unobstructed ocean views, this sauna must be the most amazing sauna in Iceland. So beautiful.

The Cold Plunge is inspired by the natural pool Snorralaug in Reykholt, which was owned by the great Icelandic historian Snorri Sturluson who lived at Bessastaðir at one time.

And the water fall into the lagoon was also geothermal heated water.

This was a great adventure that was also relaxing since we were running on about 3 hours of sleep from the flight over.

Our day ended with a delicious Italian dinner we found within walking distance of the Aurora Guesthouse where we spent that night.  Following that we found a wonderful ice cream store to end our day.
